Nokia smartphones have significant market penetration across Europe, and we are pleased to make ShopSavvy available on the S60 platform, in addition to Android and the iPhone. Our product roadmap also includes support for Windows Mobile, RIM and Palm Pre.
Dallas, TX (Vocus) April 14, 2010
Big in Japan, a Dallas-based idea factory for mobile applications , announced that ShopSavvy has been integrated into Nokia's augmented reality (AR) browser for S60 devices. Working in conjunction with the Nokia Point & Find program, ShopSavvy enables the AR browser to recognize the barcodes and provide price comparison and other information for more than 20 million products from 20,000 retailers worldwide.
"Nokia smartphones have significant market penetration across Europe, and we are pleased to make ShopSavvy available on the S60 platform, in addition to Android and the iPhone,” said Alexander Muse, co-founder of Big in Japan. "Our product roadmap also includes support for Windows Mobile, RIM and Palm Pre.”
Nokia users can use ShopSavvy to scan 1D and 2D barcodes. Utilizing the barcode information, ShopSavvy searches the Web for the best prices on the product, displaying the lowest prices online as well as at nearby local retailers. ShopSavvy looks up product reviews to further assist with purchase decisions.
Nokia Point & Find, the first mobile augmented reality browser on S60 devices, lets users discover useful and contextually relevant information and services by simply pointing their phone's built-in camera at objects. The S60 platform is among the most used smartphone platforms in the world.
Ranking as one of the most popular apps on Android phones since its launch in September 2008, Big in Japan's ShopSavvy app became available on the iPhone in November 2009. ShopSavvy enables users to comparison shop on the go, simply by scanning the product's barcode using their phone's camera.
