On September of 2009, Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng devastated Metro Manila and some of its neighboring provinces with their colossal rainfall. Hundreds of households were submerged in water, with damages amounting to more than 4 Billion Pesos. Yet, in the midst of all the chaos, good was brought out in a lot of Filipinos. Heroes would emerge in the form of Angels.

The Modess Angels Facebook group was created in order to help women give aid to other women that have become victims of the typhoons. For each member that had signed up for the group, a comfort kit donation was sent to a disaster victim. It didn't take too long for the group to reach an amazing 30,000 members and soon enough, thousands upon thousands of comfort kits were sent to women in evacuation centers. This is proof of the goodness of the Filipina heart.

Nowadays, the group continues to flourish even several months after the disaster. Its membership grows progressively each day, and has become an online help center for volunteers. The description of the group says:

"Modess Angels is a gathering of women giving comfort to other women who need care and support. It is a community of sisterhood, sharing, fun and love."

This is exactly what the group has turned into; a venue where women empower other women through advice, support, and stories of overcoming adversity.

Through partnership with socio-civic organizations, the group hopes to reach out and embrace more opportunities to extend a friendly hand to other women in need.

The Modess Angels are encouraging other women to join the group especially since it is Women's Month. For those who are interested, you may find the group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=192509909436
