Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) November 9, 2009 -- DownEast Basics, a high-style, low-price fashion retailer that specializes in trendy fashions as well as modest clothing, today announced the donation of over $26,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This is the third consecutive year DownEast has supported National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by raising funds in honor of breast cancer survivors and in the hopes of finding a cure.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the leading cause of death of women worldwide. In our own DownEast Basics family, we have many women – wives, mothers and employees – who have been affected by the disease
From October 19-31, 2009, when customers made a purchase at any of the DownEast Basics retail locations, they were able to purchase one of the brand's popular layering tees or camisoles in pink for just $3.00, regularly priced from $9.99 to $14.99, depending on the style. DownEast donated 100 percent of the purchase price to Susan G. Komen. In addition, the company also donated 30 percent of all pink tee sales sold online.

According to Andrea Updike, designer and product development director for DownEast, "We saw this as a good way to collaborate with our customers in supporting breast cancer research, and also look great while doing it!" In a posting on the DownEast Basics by Design blog, Updike encouraged DownEast fans to get involved by "going pink":

"Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the leading cause of death of women worldwide. In our own DownEast Basics family, we have many women - wives, mothers and employees - who have been affected by the disease," she wrote.

This year's donation of over $26,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be used to help with research, education and support for women diagnosed with breast cancer. The company plans to continue to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month as an annual endeavor.
