Design-build construction firm Ramtech Building Systems of Mansfield, Texas has announced that the company has completed the construction of a new elementary school building for the Blue Ridge Independent School District in Blue Ridge, Texas. As part of a multi-stage permanent modular construction project using Ramtech’s Accelerated Building System (ABS) method, the school’s existing elementary school building was replaced with a two-story 28,200 square foot facility that features 17 classrooms, two science labs, administrative office space, and an integrated library and media center. Prior to the elementary school project, Ramtech provided Blue Ridge with a new 18,088 square foot single-story middle school middle school facility which was completed before the start of the 2011-2012 academic school year. Both permanent modular buildings were designed as Type V sprinkled wood structures with steel clear span trusses and corridor walls framed with light gauge steel studs. In addition to the full height split-faced block masonry facade designed to match the District’s existing structures, both of the new facilities have integrated data, communication, and alarm systems, and a mechanical and lighting system designed to accommodate the school district’s energy management program. Ramtech also provided extensive site development services to the District by building a new road to provide more convenient access to all of their facilities, and the demolition and removal of five existing structures to make way for an expanded parking area and the space required for various physical education courts.

Blue Ridge ISD Elementary School Built Using Permanent Modular Construction

By working with Ramtech and utilizing our Accelerated Building System, Blue Ridge found the perfect fit to getting the facilities they needed quickly while still having enough funds available to do all the additional site improvements they wanted.

Throughout the entire project Ramtech kept strictly focused on the goals that Blue Ridge ISD had established which required both value engineering and the ability to provide a 50 year life span building in an expedited construction timeframe. The District was badly in need of new facilities, with many of their students in aging metal buildings. The local community pushed for more modern facilities and overwhelmingly passed a $7.3 million bond issue with 71% support. However prior to the bond issue, Blue Ridge realized that their existing master plan and design concept developed by another firm would be prohibitively expensive and they needed an alternative approach. According to Gary White, Ramtech’s Vice-President of Technical Services, “By working with Ramtech and utilizing our Accelerated Building System, they found the perfect fit to getting the facilities they needed quickly while still having enough funds available to do all the additional site improvements they wanted.”

Developed by Ramtech, the Accelerated Building System has a proven track record as an ideal approach for permanent school construction projects. It utilizes the best of offsite and onsite construction by combining the speed and efficiency of prefabricated buildings with the quality and appearance of site applied interior and exterior finishes. Ramtech achieves this by employing simultaneous construction tracts. At the same time a site specific, engineered reinforced concrete slab foundation is constructed on the building site, the fabrication of the modular building sections are taking place in Ramtech's manufacturing plant. When complete, the building sections are shipped to the project location, crane-set onto the concrete slab, then quickly weathered-in and finished-out on site. This form of design-build construction results in a superior facility with lower design and construction costs, a faster project completion schedule, and superior quality over older site construction methods.
