We are focusing heavily on social media this year so we are really thrilled to partner with Banyan Branch to further expand our reach to children and women around the world

Mona Foundation, a non-profit that promotes the education of women and children, has been selected as Banyan Branch’s pro-bono client for 2011. The social media agency chooses a non-profit to sponsor each year. This year over 50 non-profits applied and the agency selected three as finalists.

Finalists asked their followers on Twitter, Facebook, email and other social networks to vote. A tweet from supporter Rainn Wilson (@RainnWilson) to his over 2 million followers on Twitter to vote for @MonaFoundation helped the effort.

Dave Hanley, principal & founder at Banyan Branch said, “Mona is the perfect partner organization for us and we’re excited to help them achieve their goals through social media.”

Banyan Branch chose finalists based on these criteria:

  •     The organization’s impact is national or international in scope
  •     They make the world a better place for a specific need
  •     They see digital marketing as a major source of growth in your reach, influence, or donor base
  •     They have the capacity to work with our team and participate actively in the relationship, as would a paying client

Finalists included DonorsChoose and the National Audubon Society.

The Mona Foundation has worked to support grassroots educational initiatives across the world since 1999. Its main objectives are to provide quality education to all children, to raise the status of women and girls, and to build community capacity in areas where its sponsored projects are located. 100% of designated funds, and 97% of general funds go directly to projects. These projects have so far helped more than 30,000 children in 21 projects and 15 countries.

Sarah Rohm, Mona Foundation’s director of public relations hopes to increase support of the projects Mona partners with the added visibility they’ll gain through social media. “We are focusing heavily on social media this year so we are really thrilled to partner with Banyan Branch. We are confident that with their services we will be able to further expand our reach to children and women around the world."
