Monster Energy’s Daniel Cormier Takes Unanimous Decision Over Anderson Silva in the Light Heavyweight UFC 200 Main Card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

I was a little nervous, he’s so good. I fought a guy in Anderson Silva who is the greatest of all-time. I did what I had to do - Daniel Cormier

Monster Energy’s Daniel Cormier takes unanimous decision over Anderson Silva in the Light Heavyweight UFC 200 Main Card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Although legendary Silva took the fight on just 48-hour notice after Jon Jones was pulled from the UFC 200 card due to a potential anti-doping violation, which was addressed in a UFC press conference, Cormier was presented with a huge challenge in fighting the unorthodox and always dangerous Silva. Silva tried his best to keep Cormier at striking distance, but Cormier’s Olympic wrestling overpowered Silva as he pinned him to the mat for most of the fight with heavy top-mount ground and pound, smothering him from multiple positions.

While Cormier managed to control the fight and win a unanimous victory with the judges scores coming in at 30-26 across the board, it was not an easy fight and Cormier had to weather an effective flurry by Silva late in the third round.

Despite the fact that Cormier was robbed the opportunity to finally fight against Jones, he still beat a fighter that is considered to be the one of the greatest of all time.

“I was a little nervous, he’s so good,” said Cormier in a post fight interview. “I fought a guy in Anderson Silva who is the greatest of all-time. I did what I had to do."

With this Cormier improved to 18-1 with his third straight win and awaits his next challenger for the light heavyweight title.

Monster Energy’s Cain Velasquez opened up the main card of UFC 200 looking like the injury-free Cain of old completely dominating Travis Browne with a brutal TKO stoppage at the 4:57 mark of the first round.

Two-time former UFC heavyweight champion Velasquez was back in top form taking over the fight from the bell walking Travis down while landing heavy punches with his legendary work rate, and even landing an lightning-quick spinning back kick, a first for the UFC icon.

Velasquez floored Browne late in the first round and followed him to the mat, throwing a barrage of savage ground-and-pound until referee John McCarthy was forced to wave it off.

“I was out for a little bit,” Velasquez said. “I want the best fights, I what the title belt. But whoever the UFC wants me to fight, I’ll do it - I want the best guys.”

It was the 12th career finish for Velasquez. Browne has dropped two of his past three.
Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez are Monster Energy’s elite UFC athletes along with Conor McGregor, Dominick “Dominator” Cruz, Jon Jones, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, Chris “All-American” Weidman, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and Rory MacDonald.
