In light of the June 21st release of the movie “Monsters University” and research from the journal 'Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences' which suggests that people who are happy live longer, Finance Marlin supports quality “down time.” FinanceMarlin.com suggests that seniors take a break from seriousness to take a look at the new Disney/Pixar prequel.

There are so many things for seniors to be concerned with these days – healthcare, taxes, debt, social security, the state of the country and on and on. There is little escape from all of it, so the Senior Editor of FinanceMarlin.com is suggesting a funny bone break. Take two hours of time from all of the “sturm und drang” and go laugh for a bit. FinanceMarlin.com believes the new movie, “Monsters University,” is just what the doctor ordered. Tomorrow there will be time for discussions of serious things like elderly life insurance, but until then, sit back, enjoy, and laugh.

Back in November 2011, the Huffington Post published an article titled “Happiness Tied To Longer Life, Study Finds.” The article spoke of research which was published in the journal 'Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.' The Huffington article said, “the study suggests that older people who are happy have a 35 percent lower risk of dying over a five-year period than unhappy people.” In light of this research Finance Spectrum believes that taking life a little less seriously and enjoying a day out at a little kids movie can really help the mind and body!

The new movie reprises roles made famous almost 13 years ago by Billy Crystal as Mike Wazowski and John Goodman as James “Sully” Sullivan. Instead of a sequel to the wildly popular “Monsters Inc.,” the producers made a prequel, visiting the characters as they meet up in college. When presented with the idea for the new movie at a party, Crystal says he thought “Oh, this is gonna be great. It was so fun to revisit them at this time in their lives. It was such a brilliant idea to put them in that time period where they’re about to become who they’re gonna become. That’s what was so interesting to me.”

Goodman also enjoyed returning to work as “Sully” and offers, “I think the reason they work so well together is that they complete each other, in a way.” Goodman said, “I think Sully really, really needs Mike Wazowski. It makes him complete... especially in this film, when they’re not completely formed monsters yet. They learn from each other. They learn how to adapt, how to let go of their pre-conceived notions of themselves and of the world. They’re good for each other.”

The movie is full of heart and makes a great case for diversity. It’s also very, very funny. Take time out. Take the kids and or grandkids to see it…or don’t take anyone at all. Just get out and do what the doctor ordered- eat popcorn, laugh, and be happy.

Happiness has been shown to help people live longer and thus, Finance Marlin strongly supports a break from seriousness and advocates laughing for a while with the characters of “Monsters University.”
