Part of its evolving green initiatives program, the Montreal Airport Marriott has established a composting program, underway in its restaurant, banquets and kitchen, as well as an upon-request-only delivery of newspapers to guest rooms. Both efforts are part of the Montreal airport hotel’s ongoing commitment to reducing its ecological footprint as much as possible.

“We’re very conscious of our daily business and its lingering effects on the environment,” says Brenda Rodricks, General Manager of the Montréal Airport Marriott. “We’re striving to make any and all changes possible to protect and preserve the environment.”

Composting is a natural extension of the newly built hotel’s efforts in working and living more earth-consciously. The Montreal Airport hotel has, since its opening this past fall, already been innovative in creating a program to host GREEN MEETINGS, a Marriott-created program that minimizes harm to the environment during meetings and events. Its events staff has equally completed an online green program certification.

Several important environmentally friendly choices made by the Montréal Airport Marriott include:

  •     Automatic detection lighting in most offices and storage rooms
  •     Auto-sensor faucets
  •     Fresh air ventilation system with a thermal heat recovery wheel
  •     Certain ECOLAB cleaning products used in the kitchen are biodegradable and approved by the

GREEN SEAL Association

  •     Each guestroom has a recycling bin
  •     An action plan has been implemented by RCI Environnement, a company that offers a pick-up service of all recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, metal) as well as putrescible waste (food, cooking oils, napkins etc.)
  •     Work spaces and surrounding areas have recycling bins
  •     Paper used for printing and photocopying in all offices is made from 30% recycled paper
  •     Disposable cups are banned; each employee must use his own cup, as well as his own utensils and dishware
  •     “Conserve to Preserve” – changing towels only upon request

Meeting spaces:

  •     Meeting spaces clad with lots of natural light or fluorescent lights, whiteboards, recycling containers, water carafes/pitchers, 100% recycled paper writing pads and Bic Ecolutions pens that are used and made from 74% recycled material
  •     Recycling bins located in the banquet back-of-the-house areas
  •     “Southern Aluminum” buffet tables are used without linens
  •     Linen-less conference tables are utilized for all meeting sets

Food & Beverage:

  •     Box Lunch Program
  •     Tea bags from “La Courtisane” are used at every coffee break (cloth tea bags without staples)
