Reston, VA-based Moreover Technologies, Inc. has reached an aggregation milestone of 300,000 social media reports and 450,000 news articles daily, for a monthly total of 22.5 million posts culled from 306,000 sources.

Nearly 275,000 sources are social media links, including blogs, podcasts, social video, photo sharing sites, microblogs, wikis, reviews, and forums.

Founded in 1998, Moreover Technologies is one of the world's largest near real-time aggregators of business intelligence from both online news and social media sources. The firm serves such Fortune 500 clients as Shell Oil plus the world's leading media monitoring agencies.

Client access options include: Newsdesk, which delivers daily unified news and social media business intelligence customized to client specifications; user-generated and news Metabase repositories for large-scale deployment; and Search Engine Toolkit , which allows clients to customize and imbed Metabase searches using sophisticated search engine Application Programming Interface (API) technology.

Besides an industry-leading breadth of coverage, Moreover Technologies also offers depth, with search options tied to 800 industries , 100-plus countries and 50 languages. Among indexed categories are more than 5,200 medical and health sources, 5,100 financial sources, 5,200 technology sources, 4,000 government and political sources, 1,000 energy sector sources, 1,300 science sources, and about 10,000 sports sources and sections.

The firm also facilitates scheduled distribution of gathered business intelligence across the enterprise with professional email alerts/news updates and customizable HTML newsletters.

"While we continuously expand the scope and type of social media covered, we're also aware of the critical need to provide filtering and focus so that our clients don't drown in a sea of uncategorized results," notes Moreover Technologies CEO Paul Farrell. "Many social media searches give you a haystack when you're looking for a needle. We get our clients right to the point of their specific search needs."

Through Newsdesk and Metabase services, Moreover Technologies now offers extensive blog and podcast postings, along with content tracking through such microblog sites as Twitter and FriendFeed; video sharing via YouTube and other sites; forums including Neowin and DigitalSpy; consumer reviews through Amazon user reviews and the like; wikis encompassing Wikimedia Foundation sites; and photo sharing through Flickr and SmugMug, among others.

The firm is working on indexing social news aggregating companies, such as Digg, and bookmarking sites such as Delicious.

Moreover Technologies provides unparalleled article categorization using industry-leading Metabase XML, which incorporates semantic metadata in partnership with OpenCalais, and geodata in partnership with MetaCarta.

Aggregating and indexing of social media additions follows the same process as the established blog content protocols. Metadata categorization tags include feed rank, feed order, outbound links, feed categories, feed language, categories, stocktickers, generator and publishing platform.

"We believe we provide the world's largest, refined and customizable business intelligence repository, with combined daily collection of 450,000 online news articles and 300,000 social media posts, all delivered through a single, convenient portal," notes Moreover Senior Product Manager Brian Mackie. "While there are other services that excel in one or two categories, our turnkey solution provides it all, all in one place."

Media and online news services cover a wide range of client needs, including:

  •     Full 360-degree news and social media monitoring--all from one customizable interface--for reputation management, image development, tracking of competitor movement, and other meaningful analysis of customer trends, preferences and sentiments;
  •     Direct news/social media workflow integration across the enterprise through RSS;
  •     Gathering current and critical marketplace feedback that can be used for strategy development in such areas as branding, customer service, and new product/service introductions;

Adds Farrell, "In ways not even imagined just a decade ago, our industry is now delivering vast amounts of business intelligence that clients can use to make virtually instantaneous decisions and moves regarding the marketplace. We also accurately capture huge amounts of data for long-term strategic planning and tactical deployment.

"Of course, not just any data will do. That's why we're investing substantial resources in advancing social media filtering and refining techniques and technologies at the same time we're growing the repository."
