Day-Finder.com, a website dedicated to holidays such as Mother’s Day 2012, provides the dates of all upcoming religious and national holidays. The website also provides the significance of each holiday it lists. For example, Day-Finder.com reminds us that Father’s Day 2012 will be observed on Sunday, June 17 and that Father’s Day was made an official holiday in 1972 when President Nixon signed it into law. The website also provides information on other important days such as Earth Day 2012 and Daylight Savings 2012.
The website was recently launched by San Diego native Evan Mendelsohn who admits to having trouble remembering the dates of key holidays. “I have always been bad with birthdays and other important dates,” Mendelsohn stated. “Creating Day-Finder.com allowed me to remember key holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day,” he added. Mendelsohn has found that the website recieves large spikes in traffic just prior to major holidays such as Ramadan 2012, as people search online to look up the dates of these holidays.
Mendelsohn is also working to add two new functions to the website in the coming months: an email reminder feature and a “build your own calendar” feature. The email reminder feature will allow visitors to select from a list of holidays and specify the number of days in advance they would like to receive an email reminder for each of the selected holidays. The website will then distribute email reminders to those who opt in for these reminders.
The website is also planning to launch a "build your own calendar" feature. Such a feature would allow someone to insert all important religious and national holidays in one customizable (and printable) calendar. For example, a Muslim American could print a calendar that includes listings for American holidays like Father's Day 2012 and Muslim holidays like Ramadan 2012. This feature would allow people to keep a printable calendar that is customizable to their own religious affiliation and nationality.
These new functions will enhance the website's growing use as a trip-planning tool. Often times, well-planned trips to foreign countries can be met with unexpected delays caused by religious and other national holidays. For example, a trip to Indonesia during Ramadan could mean unexpected travel delays, overbooked hotels, closed restaurants, and other unanticipated issues. Day-Finder.com helps visitors to remember that foreign observances of national and religious holidays can be one of the most important factors to consider when timing a trip. Email reminders will serve the website's continued initiative to aid in trip planning.
Day-Finder.com’s visitor traffic is fueled by a a computer and smart-phone based generation that is increasingly turning to the internet for quick answers to simple questions. As computer dependence continues to increase, informational websites like Day-Finder.com are proving their worth.
