The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 features a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 engine,
rear spoiler and bulging tires—but still
greatly resembles its iconic ‘70s look.
Mustang was the first model out of the gate to go retro, with the
current late ‘60s-inspired version debuting
in 2005.

On the track, the lighter and more powerful Ford Shelby GT500
outperforms both the last GT500 Motor Trend tested in 2006 and
the Challenger SRT8, with a 4.3 second 0-60 time and a 12.6 second
quarter-mile time at 114.2 mph.

Out on the road, the heavier and larger Challenger is impressively
balanced, with a fully independent suspension that gives the car a
sophistication and poise lacking in the nose-heavy GT500.

Dodge has already sold nearly all of the 6400 Challenger SRT8s it
intends to build for the 2008 model year, with a price that undercuts
the Shelby GT500 by more than $4000.
