“One of the hardest things that people have trouble doing is letting themselves off the hook,” May says. “I would like reader to be set free from their bad choices.”

Author Dora May knows firsthand the pain and hardship of growing up without a father. In her new book, “Because You Wasn't There Daddy” (published by AuthorHouse), May reflects on her life without her father and how she was able to grow from an insecure girl to an independent woman.

May’s father left their family when she was just 4 years old. The feelings of anger and abandonment weighed heavily on her, making it harder for her to trust and forgive others and love herself. Though she attended church services, May did not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

As an adult, the anger began to consume May and steered her into one disastrous relationship after another. By accepting Jesus into her heart, May began the long healing process as she learned how to forgive her father and herself.

“One of the hardest things that people have trouble doing is letting themselves off the hook,” May says. “I would like reader to be set free from their bad choices.”

An excerpt from “Because You Wasn't There Daddy”:

“There were many spaces in many places, but I only chose one in each area wherever I went. Those places never let me forget, nor did it make it easy to forgive. Still, no matter where or when the appointed time was, I would end up in that familiar place. The outcome was hurtful, painful, and difficult to repeat.”
