Chestertown, Md. (Vocus) April 10, 2009
Mullin/Ashley Associates, Inc., an integrated communications firm serving the Mid-Atlantic region, has received two awards in the Service Industry Advertising Awards national competition. The awards were won for communications programs created for the Maryland Hospital Association and Anne Arundel Medical Center.
A Bronze Award was won by Mullin/Ashley in the "external publications" category for the Nursing Executive Summary - a special publication designed and produced for the Maryland Hospital Association. The piece was published to heighten awareness of the shortage of nursing professionals in the state of Maryland - a shortage that is expected to become more serious in the future.
The MHA publication also outlines actions that could alleviate the shortage, including steps that hospitals, educational institutions, elected officials and other governmental personnel can take to create an environment more conducive to educating nursing personnel and attracting them to work in Maryland's healthcare institutions. The piece was presented as a "quick read" in a clear and simple format suitable for a non-medical audience, with the information presented in a thoughtful way, yet with a clear point of view.
An Award of Merit was also won by Mullin/Ashley for The Chronicle, a monthly newspaper designed and produced for Anne Arundel Medical Center. AAMC is undertaking a major expansion of its hospital campus which includes the addition of two new multi-story care facilities, new operating rooms and patient rooms, a helipad, plus new parking garages. Produced in a large broadsheet size, the newspaper "chronicles" the progress of construction via field reports plus a timeline showing completed elements. The newspaper articles help keep the excitement level high concerning the expansion initiative, along with helpful tips for patients and their families as they navigate the construction zones around campus. In addition, links to "real-time/online" information updates are available on AAMC's web site.
This is the sixth annual competition of the Service Industry Advertising Awards program, which began in 2003. It is billed as the only awards competition that focuses exclusively on communication achievements in the service industry, which comprises a variety of segments including healthcare services, associations and other membership organizations, plus utilities, financial services, educational institutions, hospitality and entertainment. Nearly 1,200 entries across 27 communications categories were submitted in this year's competition and were evaluated by a national panel of judges for creativity, content, production quality and overall audience appeal.
