Current Exhibitions

Comics Stripped, an illustrated exploration of the dirty drawing, features more than 160 artifacts, including original drawings, illustrated books, comic books, magazines and videos. The exhibit addresses the adult nature of comics and cartoons, a concept now widely popularized in television series like The Simpsons and Family Guy on FOX and Ugly Americans shown on Comedy Central. It’s tantalizing, racy and is sure to stoke more than a few libidos. Comic, anime and animation fans attending the exhibit separately may end up together before their evening is complete.

The Sex Lives of Animals reveals sex is more than the drive to reproduce. Our expanding knowledge of the natural world has revealed that animals participate in an astonishing array of sexual behaviors, where all conceivable sex acts and sexual partnerships exist. Animals engage in foreplay behaviors such as kissing, hugging, mutual and self-stimulation, oral sex and every kind of penetrative intercourse imaginable. Sex in the animal kingdom is just as complex and nuanced as it is for humans, and pleasure, it seems, is not restricted to the human realm.

Titillating exhibits such as “Action” Sex and the Moving Image which traces the way sex and sexual imagery have impacted film, television, advertising and the Internet, Spotlight on the Permanent Collection and The Sex Lives of Robots will also be on display. After viewing the exhibits, guests can visit the museum store to discover unique and unexpected gifts for Valentine’s Day.
