At the age of 20, singer-songwriter, Trey Ewald, has already released a top quality EP, ‘3’, while establishing himself as a talented singer, songwriter, and performer. Achieving a high position in the BEAT100 Original Music Video Chart this week, following a recent upload of his music video for original ‘When You Stole My Heart’, Trey impresses BEAT100 users and the BEAT100 A&R team as he tallies his votes and secures a BEAT100 Gold Song, Gold Video, and Gold Favorite Award.
Growing up, Trey was frequently exposed to music and took an interest at an early age, spending time at his uncle’s recording studio while learning to play guitar, bass, drums, and piano. “[My uncle] had me in his studio with guitars, drumsticks, and microphones in my hands before I could even talk,” says Trey. After writing his first song at age three about the unfortunate case of his melting snowman, Trey quickly learned to find inspiration all around him: “From personal experiences, to fictional stories, to every piece of music I have ever heard, I find inspiration in everything I encounter in life,” he says.
In addition to pursuing vocal lessons and continuing his independent music studies, Trey also finds collaborating with other artists a successful way to advance his songwriting and musical talent. Trey traveled around the US in recent years to collaborate, record, and write with numerous musicians and producers. “I absolutely love travelling, especially to cities with rich, exciting music scenes,” he says. Trey’s favorite cities include Nashville, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with Sarah and Amber from the band, Everlife, and Los Angeles, where he met with Metro Station front man Mason Musso. It was during a collaborative songwriting session when the two artists co-wrote the catchy lyrics to Trey’s hit song, ‘When You Stole My Heart’.
Following extensive time devoted to travelling, collaborating, and writing, Trey picked his best five songs for EP, ‘3’, before recording for five days in Brooklyn, NY with like-minded producer Christian Medice. Throughout the album, Trey says, “It was important for me to keep my own voice in each song while also bringing in unique sounds and ideas from all [of my] cowriters.” The five-track EP provides listeners with an array of bright, fun, and uplifting pop tracks filled with Trey’s energetic vocals and catchy lyrics. From the electronic sounds of, ‘My Everything’, to the heartfelt vocals of, ‘When You Stole My Heart’, ‘3’ is an album of professional quality easily comparable to the likes of the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber. The first track of the album, ‘Happy Now’, is currently Trey’s bestselling song and—though it was the last song written for the EP in the shortest period of time—is impressively played in Abercrombie and Hollister stores around the world and was recently added to Hollister’s campaign commercials airing throughout China.
Moving forward, Trey is currently writing new song material while booking live performances. Though he’s performed with bands in the past, Trey will continue to pursue a career as a solo artist: “As much fun as I have had in previous bands, the creative freedom I have as a solo artist is unbeatable,” he says. As he continues on the path to international stardom, Trey says: “Music has changed my life in more ways than I could possibly imagine. I have seen so many places and met so many amazing people with whom I will have lifelong relationships, thanks to my music career. Music is more than just my passion, it is a part of me.”
