From Beethoven to BB King: WVSA Unplugged

It's that time again! WVSA ARTiculate gallery will host the opening reception for "WVSA Unplugged," from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 29, 2007.

Our artist apprentices have fused visual arts with performing arts to present an "unplugged" version of our favorite musicians, instruments and concert moments. The show is comprised of one-of-a-kind portraits of our favorite music images, created by WVSA ARTiculate artist apprentices. Rock, jazz, hip-hop, pop or something more exotic--this show will feature a melting pot of genres guaranteed to please the music-lover in everyone!

b.jpgThe gallery, located at 1100 16th Street N.W., is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m - 6 p.m. At the opening reception, commissioners will have the chance to view their commissioned music image for the first time, as well as enjoy refreshments and meet the artists. The opening will also feature a live performance from our musician artists in residence from Ireland.

The outdoor screening will begin at 7:30 p.m., as Washington, D.C.-based choreographer Jane Jerardi and SAIL (School for Arts in Learning) students present Chance, a set of short video-dances that will be projected in public spaces. In a two month long after-school program, Jerardi has lead SAIL 5th and 6th graders through the process of developing movement and dance improvisations. As the culmination of her residency, Jerardi and her students will present their striking video-dances, which explore chance meetings, playful dances and moments of synchronicity.

WVSA ARTs connection is a 501(c)(3) community-based arts and education nonprofit located in Washington, D.C. that serves youth and families from backgrounds as diverse as the city itself. Our mission is to develop, implement, and support arts-integrated education and employment programs for children and youth with special skills, special talents and special needs.

WVSA ARTiculate gallery is a youth-run art gallery, hosting eight original shows each year. Shows highlight the work of the artist apprentices in the ARTiculate Employment Training Program. Artist apprentices receive a commission on all artwork sold.
