Music Explorer FX wins first prize in the JavaFX Coding Challenge. Sten Anderson, a senior consultant at CITYTECH Inc., an IT consultancy based out of Chicago, developed Music Explorer FX using JavaFX to win the $25,000 prize.

Sun Microsystems awarded the Music Explorer FX application, developed by Sten Anderson its top prize in the JavaFX Coding Challenge.

Music Explorer FX is a tool for music discovery written in JavaFX. This application was developed by Sten Anderson, a senior consultant at CITYTECH, Inc., a Chicago-based IT consultancy with expertise in the Java and Microsoft .NET platforms. Anderson wins the $25,000 first place award for his JavaFX application.

Music Explorer FX is a visual tool for discovering new music powered by The Echo Nest's public web services. Start by entering the name of a favorite musician and Music Explorer FX recommends up to six related artists, complete with images and familiarity and "hotness" ratings. Music Explorer FX aims to take users on a "musical journey" based on the recommendations it provides. As users take a journey, they can listen to music, view images of the artist, and follow links to view videos, reviews, news and blogs. At any point users can automatically tweet their journey if they discover a path that they particularly enjoy.

Music Explorer FX was first featured during the announcement of the new Java App Store at a JavaOne keynote presentation] this June.
