National Alliance to End Homelessness to Host National Conference on Ending Homelessness

Washington, D.C. (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 28, 2009 -- Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Shaun Donovan will serve as the lead keynote speaker at the National Conference on Ending Homelessness, hosted by the National Alliance to End Homelessness (the "Alliance").
This annual event will host approximately 1,200 homeless service providers, government agencies, federal officials, and other key stakeholders in a 3-day conversation about the state of homelessness in America. Participants will discuss recent data, new techniques, and best practices on homelessness prevention, diversion, re-housing, and management. The effects of the recession, the role of the $1.5 billion Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program, and the significance of the recently-released Annual Homeless Assessment Report are expected to be topics of interest at this year's conference.
"This is an incredible year for advocates and providers in our field - a year with unique challenges and enormous opportunities," said Nan Roman, president of the Alliance. "We're faced with economic instability, rising unemployment, and an anticipated rise in homelessness. At the same time, we have new stimulus resources and increased attention to the crisis. Now is the time for a serious conversation about systematic change; now is the time to face our challenges head-on."
The Conference will start at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 and end at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 31 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. Secretary Donovan will deliver they keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 30.
