NAPW honors Anna Buryk,, B.A., M.P.A., as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Buryk is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in higher education. As the largest networking organization of professional women in the country, the National Association of Professional Women is a vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
“My career in college admissions actually took seed when I was an undergraduate at Meredith College, a small, private, thriving women's college in Raleigh, North Carolina,” says Ms. Buryk.
Working in admissions was a natural fit for Ms. Buryk; she enjoyed the interaction with young women, helping them navigate the college admission process. After graduating, she returned to work at the college as an Admissions Counselor, and within four years, eventually was promoted to her current role, Assistant Director of Admissions.
An important initiative Ms. Buryk has created at Meredith College is ARMS (Alumnae Recruiting Meredith Students). “The new program supports the efforts of the admissions office, strengthens relationships with schools in targeted geographic regions, promotes new programs at the college and identifies additional opportunities to recruit top scholars to Meredith,” explains Ms. Buryk. Through ARMS, alumnae are invited to get involved in the recruitment process by sharing their experiences and successes with prospective and current students.
Ms. Buryk admits that working in a fast-paced college admissions office is hard work, but she appreciates the valuable knowledge, insight, and leadership qualities she has gained. She is passionate about helping young women achieve their college dreams and looks forward to continuing to be a part of the expert team of admissions professionals she works with at Meredith College.
