The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Martha (Marty) F. Shean, as a 2015-2016 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership. NAPW is the nation's leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 775,000 members and over 200 operating Local Chapters.

“I'm pleased to recognize Marty with this important honor,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her perseverance, work ethic and leadership qualities are an inspiration to all women.”

Marty Shean is the Children’s Director of an after-school program at the Lake Pleasant Library in New York’s Hamilton County. She taught music for 35 years in a computer magnet school in Utica, NY, until her retirement in 2000 to Speculator, NY, where she has lived since 1985.

For the past 15 years, Marty has been enjoying the rewards of reading and providing a nurturing environment to the many children who attend Lake Pleasant’s after-school program. “My most challenging thing is time,” said Marty, whose busy schedule includes driving an ambulance for the Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps and playing the organ for all the weddings and funerals that take place at United Methodist Churches in Speculator, Lake Pleasant, and Wells.

If there were a contest for which activity is the most rewarding for Marty, it would have to be working with the great kids at Lake Pleasant Library, she said. As a role model and mentor, Marty Shean continues to be a force in the spiritual and civic life of her community.
