Members and guests of the NAPW Bakersfield, CA Local Chapter gathered on September 12th for a networking luncheon to celebrate the Chapter’s re-launch. The meeting was held at Valentien Restaurant and Wine Bar in Bakersfield, where all enjoyed a delicious French-inspired meal while networking and making new friends. The afternoon’s guest speaker was Robin Mangarin-Scott, an appropriate choice since she recently re-launched her own career.
“Twenty-five members and guests were in attendance at the Chapter’s re-launch luncheon that kicked off with a social on the patio where everyone had the opportunity to network by exchanging business cards and ideas,” said NAPW Bakersfield, CA Chapter President Janelle Capra.
Janelle invited members and guests to participate in an activity to gather information on the future direction of the Chapter by filling out cards listing the local businesses they wanted to visit, the charities they wanted to support, and the media ideas they wanted to explore. Everyone then posed for a group photograph.
Once inside, the celebration of the re-launch continued when the afternoon’s special guest speaker, Robin Mangarin-Scott, took the floor and shared a few words of wisdom with members and guests.
“Robin told members and guests that her retirement actually turned into a full-time job and she soon found herself back at work ‘re-launching’ the next chapter in her career,” said Janelle.
Robin spoke about how she had followed her passion and worked as a TV Anchor/Reporter for more than 25 years and then made a decision to retire to spend more time with family and the charities and organizations that were close to her heart. Robin decided to re-launch her career and focus on healthcare and community. She is now Director of Strategic Marketing for Dignity Health.
“Robin shared that you never know where your career will take you…even beyond retirement!” said Janelle.
In addition to hearing Robin’s inspiring talk, members and guests had the opportunity to meet the Chapter’s new Board Members when Janelle introduced Wendy Armijo, Chapter Vice President and Shelly Pryor, Chapter Social Media Chair. Janelle also shared with members and guests the exciting news about NAPW’s new incentive program that rewards a Chapter for its charitable involvement.
“I encourage all members to ‘dream big’ and together we can try to win the $10,000 for the Bakersfield Chapter!” Janelle said.
The luncheon concluded with another incentive, ‘Brag for a Buck,’ where several attendees donated $1 to next month’s charity in turn for ‘bragging’ about their business, family, or recent trip. Next month’s meeting is scheduled to be held October 10th at The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House. Scarlett Sabin, House Manager, will be the guest speaker and host at the Chapter luncheon.
“It is sure to be a great luncheon focused on ‘doing lunch and doing good’ for children and families in Kern County,” said Janelle.
