Members and guests of the NAPW Naples, FL Local Chapter gathered on October 11th for a professional networking meeting at the famous Shula’s Steak House. The Chapter Board was introduced, photos taken, and announcements made by Board Members. Members and guests were then treated to a multimedia presentation, ‘The Sultanate of Oman, A Personal Journey by Dr. Bonnie Rae,’ about life in the Middle East as told by Naples, FL Chapter President Bonnie Rae with help from her daughter, Sophie.

As members and guests arrived for the networking event, Marie Jackson who has graciously volunteered her time to become a part of the NAPW Naples Local Chapter Executive Board/Committee Chair greeted them. Marie, a Patient Coordinator of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Naples with Dr. Hasen (who is board certified) took the position of Membership Director/Ambassadors.

Marie is responsible for creating and maintaining the member database, ordering name tags, handles RSVPs for meetings, greets and introduces members and guests, and orders, coordinates, and hands out roses. She also generously volunteered to contribute her time to the other titles still open such as List Coordinator and Public Relations/Marketing Coordinator.

“The NAPW Naples Local Chapter added an Executive Board/Committee Chair for those members who want to participate, but have limited time and dates to be fully committed,” said Chapter President Bonnie Rae. “Also, the new positions encourage member participation and the opportunity for members to serve in the Chapter on a part time and/or rotational basis.”

Bonnie introduced the Naples Local Chapter Board including Margaret Jacobs, Vice President, and Jaci Sanabria, Secretary. Photos were taken by Chapter Volunteer Photographer Jennifer Delaney. Bonnie extended her appreciation and thanks to Jennifer for capturing every moment and taking outstanding photos of the evening as it unfolded.

May-Wong Chou was introduced by the Vice President as the Board’s new Treasurer and was handed a name tag as part of the Naples Chapter Board of Directors.

Next, Jaci Sanabria handed out the information on the Executive Board/Committee Chairs and introduced with great pleasure Marie Jackson, the new Membership Director/Ambassador and Volunteers List Coordinator as part of the Executive Board/Committee Chairs.

“The Board would like thank Marie so much for assisting in building the success of the Naples Chapter,” said Jaci.

As the evening was underway, a raffle from donations from the Board and members was held for those members who registered early for the meeting. Congratulations to Lisa Baldwin, the winner of the raffle.

The Chapter President announced to members to encourage and invite people they know to the Chapter meeting regardless if they are members or not. Bonnie also led a Q&A session regarding information on membership and how to join.

“I encourage everyone to bring more people from their circle of influence to join the NAPW Naples Local Chapter,” she said.

During announcements, orders were taken for dinner and the first course of the food was served. The rest of the meal was served in a timely manner.

Eventually, members and guests settled back to enjoy a fascinating presentation from the Chapter President. Chapter Vice President Margaret Jacobs introduced Bonnie who was ably assisted in her slide presentation, ‘The Sultanate of Oman, A Personal Journey by Dr. Bonnie Rae’ by her daughter Sophie. Both were dressed in the native country’s attire. Bonnie decorated the meeting room with interesting photos of the country’s architecture, cities, shops, people, and artwork. Arabic music was played in the background before and during the presentation.

As the presentation carried on, the slideshow depicted Bonnie and Sophie’s life in the country of Oman, and the story of how and why this became a new life from the beginning to the present. In her riveting presentation, Bonnie discussed:

  •     Their arrival in the country, how the people dressed; Bonnie demonstrated how to put on the headdress the women wore.
  •     How the people wore the best perfumes and colognes.
  •     What the weather was like.
  •     What the schools were like for Sophie.
  •     How the mail was delivered.
  •     How to use and figure out money, what the government does for its people, how people get married, and what are some of the laws governing marriage.
  •     How the country was reminded throughout the day to pray five times during the day. She explained how an assembly was held at a Mosque in regard to the Islamic religion and she spoke about what the Islamic Muslims believe.

“Bonnie demystified some of the common stereotypes of the Middle East while educating us on the culture there,” said the Chapter Vice President. “Dr. Bonnie Rae and her daughter Sophie gave an insightful and educational presentation and we thank them for sharing their personal journey with us.”

Shortly after the presentation, the Chapter President ended with a Q&A session.

Coffee and dessert were served and the meeting adjourned. The Board would like to thank Shula’s Steak House Manager Jeff Jerome and his staff for an excellent job, outstanding service, and for allowing us to use the meeting room once again to accommodate the NAPW Naples Local Chapter.

“The menu was outstanding and perfectly delicious!” said Bonnie.

Meeting notes were reported by Jaci Sanabria (GST PRO DJ PRODUCTION, LLC), Naples Chapter Secretary.
