"We have this wonderful opportunity to combine our energies together as women professionals and the potential to come together and grow into something great"
Garden City, NY (PRWEB) January 23, 2013
Members and guests of the NAPW Grand Rapids, MI Local Chapter gathered on January 9th for the first professional networking meeting of the year. The group of professional women met at McFadden’s Restaurant and Grill in downtown Grand Rapids, where they enjoyed Happy Hour half-priced drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the popular restaurant’s cozy upper deck.
Grand Rapids Chapter President Nessa McCasey graciously welcomed members to the second meeting of the recently created Chapter. The President prompted a discussion about the value of networking through the NAPW Grand Rapids Chapter and attendees agreed on the importance of networking as a group at Chapter meetings and events.
“We have this wonderful opportunity to combine our energies together as women professionals and the potential to come together and grow into something great,” said Nessa.
Nessa explained that at the next meeting, members could expect to be offered opportunities for Chapter leadership positions. Plans were also made to collect ideas for future speakers/meeting topics. A membership benefit will be to gather business cards from each attendee, draw one out, and have that member give a five-minute presentation about themselves/their business at the next Chapter meeting.
The group is starting out the New Year with a new plan for meetings: rotating between morning and evening meetings. The next Chapter event will be a breakfast meeting at 8:00am at The Omelet Shoppe on Michigan Street in Grand Rapids. Meetings will continue on the second Wednesday each month, either as an evening or a breakfast/lunch meeting. Members are always welcome to invite a guest to an upcoming meeting, someone they believe would benefit from joining NAPW.
“Though we are small in numbers, we are expanding our networking potential and will continue to grow our possibilities each month,” said the Chapter President.
Details about future meetings will be posted on the NAPW Grand Rapids Local Chapter Page, as well as on the Chapter’s Facebook Page.
The following members and guests were present at the January 9th meeting: Ellen Seese of Disability Advocates of Kent County and Ride for Warriors; Becky Alves of Service Team of Professionals; Kathy Bender of Amgen; Charity Schmidt of Lickety Stitch (custom embroidery), Jennifer Zalinksi of Merrill Lynch; and Nessa McCasey of Wildridge Writers/iaPOETRY.
