Boston Red Sox Pitcher Curt Schilling and Wife Shonda Partner with
National Amusements to Launch Free Summer Film Program to Raise
Awareness for Sun Protection
The free eight week summer movie series, called SPF-Sun Protection
Flicks, will offer families “Out of the Sun
Fun”
DEDHAM, Mass. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) June 7, 2007 --
National Amusements, Inc., a world leader in the motion picture
exhibition industry, in partnership with Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt
Schilling and his wife Shonda, founder of the SHADE Foundation of
America, today announced the launch of the SPF-Sun Protection Flicks
program. The eight week summer movie series was created by National
Amusements to raise awareness of the importance of sun protection and to
offer families “Out of the Sun Fun”
in support of the SHADE Foundation’s important
mission.
The program officially kicks-off on June 25, 2007 and will feature a
free family film every Monday at 11 a.m. at select National Amusements’
Showcase Cinemas locations. Patrons will also be able to purchase
special Curt Schilling 44 ounce “Collector’s
Cups” with a portion of the proceeds to
benefit The SHADE Foundation.
The Shade Foundation (www.shadefoundation.org)
is a non-profit organization founded by Shonda Schilling, wife of Red
Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. Shonda is a melanoma survivor who launched
the foundation with the mission of reducing future cases of skin cancer
by educating children about sun-safety.
“The Shade Foundation is proud to see
Showcase Cinemas joining in our sun-safety mission by offering kids an
entertainment filled alternative to playing in the hot sun,”
said Shonda Schilling. “One in five kids will
grow up to develop skin cancer. We are hoping parents, babysitters and
camp directors take advantage of these free sun-safe movies and keep
their children shaded this summer in an attempt to help reduce that
alarming statistic.”
“We are honored to join Curt and Shonda
Schilling and the SHADE Foundation to help raise awareness for their
critical mission,” said Shari Redstone,
president of National Amusements. “Supporting
the communities in which we operate is of the utmost importance to us.
We are delighted that we can use the magic of the movies to help provide
children and families with the knowledge they need to stay healthy and
safe in the sun.”
National Amusements has a strong commitment to the community and hosts a
number of community based initiatives in its theatres such as: Bookworm
Wednesdays (a summer reading program for children), Kidtoon Films
(G-rated movies every Saturday and Sunday morning), Silver Screen
Classics (a classic movie program geared toward senior citizens) and
Holiday Classics (providing canned goods for local food pantries).
