Wooden coached players. We coach production associates. Our courts are found in manufacturing and distribution facilities. Our team is nGROUP and we are proud of the fact that we've never lost a game.

The NCAA Tournament is celebrating 75 years of March Madness this year. In collaboration of this historical celebration, nGROUP performance partners is showcasing their industry playbook as it relates to the coaching style that exemplifies the tournament’s most celebrated coach, John Wooden.
nGROUP Chief Operating Officer, Jim Zimmerman, who happens to be a huge NCAA basketball fan, recently illustrated the parallel of his companies management style to that of Coach Wooden in a training session held in Charlotte, NC in late February.
According to Zimmerman, nGROUP’s training session revealed that the same level of deliberate and detailed planning that goes into building a winning basketball team, is the same level of planning that goes into building a winning production team.
“From 1964 to 1975, UCLA, under Coach Wooden, won 10 NCAA Championships. His consistent ability to produce a championship team is by design. Conversely, our ability to meet production standards and deliver cost improvements, facility after facility, year after year, reveals the same methodical approach to planning every detail of the production process,” says Zimmerman.
Zimmerman also points out that Wooden’s overwhelming amount of success is so baffling that many industries throughout the business world have studied Wooden’s leadership approach. Researchers at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and UC Santa Cruz conducted one such study. The study revealed that Wooden seized every moment to teach individual players for a bigger purpose.
“Wooden coached players. We coach production associates. Our courts are found in manufacturing and distribution facilities. Our coaching staff is comprised of implementation engineers and performance managers. Our team is nGROUP and we are proud of the fact that we’ve never lost a game. And just like Wooden, we have designed plays for every possible scenario. During our training session we bundled those practices into one playbook.” says Zimmerman.
