Four N.E.I. Ballast Water Treatment Systems Ordered For VLCCs
This is a key milestone for Samgong, our licensee and strategic partner in Korea, representing the first of many VOS™ System orders to come. For N.E.I., it validates our strategy of partnering with respected industry leaders in major marine markets.
Busan, Republic of Korea (PRWEB) September 21, 2010
N.E.I. Treatment Systems licensee Samgong Co., Ltd. of Korea received an initial order from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) for four Venturi Oxygen Stripping™ (VOS™) ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) to be installed on four 318,000 DWT VLCCs being built for SAMCO Shipholding Pte. Ltd. of Singapore. The order represents the largest BWTS order to date for the Hyundai Group, who is the world’s largest shipbuilder.
Commenting on the HSHI order, N.E.I. CEO Jon Slangerup said: “This is a key milestone for Samgong, our licensee and strategic partner in Korea, representing the first of many VOS™ System orders to come. Samgong has made a significant investment in resources needed to aggressively pursue the market for BWTS in Korea, and that investment is beginning to pay off. For N.E.I., it validates our strategy of partnering with respected industry leaders in major marine markets like Korea as a means to accelerate our sales and global market penetration.”
The four 6,350m3/hr VOS™ Systems for HSHI/SAMCO represent the Company’s largest BWTS solutions on order to date, eclipsing the record previously announced by N.E.I. with its order for six 4,400m3/hr VOS™ Systems being built in Korea by Samgong for Dayang Shipyard in China. N.E.I. has delivered the first three of six VOS™ Systems to Dayang, which are being installed on six 118,000 DWT bulk carriers being built for Hartmann Reederie of Germany.
Commenting on the VOS orders, Samgong President Jin Seok Zong said: “The HSHI and Dayang orders add to the growing list of VOS™ Systems installed or now on order for tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels, making VOS™ the first BWTS technology to be installed on all three major ship types. Ship owners like SAMCO, Hartmann, APL and other VOS™ customers are acting ahead of the implementation timetable of the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention, further demonstrating the commercial availability and effectiveness of Type-Approved BWTS solutions like VOS™.”
