“Today’s lawyers don’t need to compete against technology, but they do need to compete with it." - Michael Mills, CEO, Neota Logic Inc.
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 24, 2012
Neota Logic Inc. collaborated with Georgetown Law School by providing students access to a suite of tools that deliver online answers to real-world legal questions. The students created legal apps that were judged by industry experts in the "Iron Tech Lawyer Competition."
The groundbreaking apps were pitted against each other at Georgetown’s first annual “Iron Tech Lawyer Competition” as the final project in Professor Tanina Rostain and Professor Roger Skalbeck's seminar “Technology, Innovation, and Law Practice.” The teams of students presented their applications to a panel of expert judges on April 18th. The award winners were all developed with the Neota Logic System, as were two others among the seven in the competition.
- The US Citizenship Adviser – Winner: Iron Tech Lawyer (Best Overall)
- Same-Sex Marriage Adviser – Winner: Best Design
- Copyright Navigator – Winner: Best Presentation
- Business Entity Adviser – Honorable Mention
- On the Beat: Automobile Search Warrant Adviser – Honorable Mention
“The students did not write papers or argue in moot court this semester,” said Michael Mills, Neota Logic’s Chief Executive Officer. “Instead, they created software applications to deliver online answers to real-world legal questions.” He added, “Today’s lawyers don’t need to compete against technology, but they do need to compete with it. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Georgetown and helping lawyers use software to increase the efficiency, quality, and accessibility of their services.”
Neota Logic Inc. provided its software-development platform to the law school gratis. In addition, Neota Logic’s Director of Customer Support & Training, Kevin Mulcahy, worked with the students as they designed and built their apps, helping them leverage their analytical skills and knowledge of the law to define a new way of delivering legal guidance.
The seminar was featured on the April 18th Nightly Business Report video segment, "Handy Legal Advice, in the Palm of Your Hand."
The seminar was also featured on Ron Friedmann's blog, Strategic Legal Technology in his April 19th article, "Iron Tech Lawyer Competition at Georgetown Law School."
The Neota Logic System combines individually powerful reasoning methods—decision trees, decision tables, if/then rules, calculations, weighted factors, spreadsheets, case-based reasoning and others—into a single expert engine that can manage problems of great subtlety and complexity.
