Today's companies demand that their IT departments document and manage IT assets to gain an overview of costs, organizational changes, maintenance and service agreements, as well as to ensure that they are adhering to compliance regulations
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 25, 2008
Netop, a leading provider of software solutions for desktop management, unified communications, advanced training and instruction, today announced its new IT Asset Management solution, a complete hardware and software management solution for medium-sized companies. With Netop® Asset Control, IT administrators can proactively discover, manage and track their company's IT assets from a central location. The solution makes it possible to define potential hardware and software savings and avoid high-risk compliance issues. Netop Asset Control allows companies to improve the productivity of their IT resources, reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and increase their return on investment (ROI).
"Today's companies demand that their IT departments document and manage IT assets to gain an overview of costs, organizational changes, maintenance and service agreements, as well as to ensure that they are adhering to compliance regulations," said Kurt Bager, CEO, Netop. "Netop Asset Control helps companies achieve these goals by providing complete visibility of important IT assets from a central location along with the associated contractual relationships."
The Netop Asset Control solution includes the Netop Asset Agent, Netop Asset Manager and a SQL Server database. This uncomplicated but robust approach makes it possible to design and monitor the required implementation centrally while making the most of existing infrastructure and ensuring data accessibility. The solution offers functions for identifying software usage and license management in order to be able to determine the scope and frequency of any given software application. With constantly updated real-time information and the flexible reporting tool, companies can receive important data for the planning of budgets, investments, system upgrades, operating system rollouts and software deployment.
"The Inventory Scan function in Netop Remote Control provides a complete overview of the computer's hardware configuration and installed software. Customers have been impressed with this feature and want to use the information to support planning," said Chris Twyman, product manager. "Now with Netop Asset Control, they can do that and more, maximizing their technology investments and creating organizational efficiencies."
With Netop Asset Control's software metering capability, companies can quickly and easily identify both how much and how often various software applications are used across the organization and plan for future purchases or eliminate existing applications. This ensures that employees have access to the technology they need and helps the company avoid spending valuable resources on tools that aren't being used.
With the software's collections feature, IT managers can create advanced filters to develop custom reports. For example, a report detailing the hardware specifications for all of the company's PCs can be developed in preparation for an operating system upgrade or rollout of new software. Custom data can also be added to the asset management process. Data on other contracts, such as leases, are easily added and can be made available when generating reports.
Dynamic, real-time visibility of IT assets
The Netop Asset Agent is designed to reconstruct a comprehensive collection of hardware and software configurations from the network and immediately report any changes that have occurred. The efficient Scan Agent has very low overhead and can be set up to run at pre-defined intervals, making it extremely non-intrusive to the end user. Using Active Directory integration, IT administrators can also initiate remote scans that leave no footprint on the target PC. Netop Asset Control's search functions, advanced filters and reports make it easy to locate all computers, printers, users and applications on the network, as well as to identify any unapproved software or files that have been installed. The built-in approval process for installed software allows IT departments to categorize software types, enforce software policies and discover unapproved applications on the network. Netop Asset Control integrates easily with Netop Remote Control. When both solutions are installed, a simple right-click allows administrators to perform remote administrative tasks from their own PCs.
Netop Asset Control's continuously updated real-time information and flexible reporting tool gives companies important data for planning budgets, investments, system upgrades, operating system rollouts and software deployment. Netop Asset Control also allows them to ensure that they are in compliance with software license agreements. Using the software's license management database, IT managers can find and manage licenses, serial numbers and contacts. It even sends email notifications when licenses expire. Central maintenance of licenses takes only a few clicks, saving a company considerable time in the event of an audit.
Netop Asset Control will be available from Netop partners at the end of October 2008 and can be purchased on a per-agent basis including support and upgrade insurance for 12 months.
