Established in 1917, Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) has become one of the most well-known and successful lines of luxury motor vehicles in the world. BMW once again has new car models to be released for sales in the United States.
BMW plans to continue this success with their new 2013 BMW models. Most of the 2013 BMW models will be a continuation of 2012 BMW models, but four of them will be new models - the new 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3, new 2013 BMW M5, new 2013 BMW M6, and new 2013 BMW X1.
Emphasizing environmental friendliness with a sport sedan style, the new 2013 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is priced at $49,300. This model is turbocharged and delivers 335 hp at 5800 rpm and 330 ft lb of torque at 1200 rpm. It is equipped with gasoline direct fuel injection, a 3.0L in-line six-cylinder DOHC Double-VANOS engine with variable valve timing, a lithium-ion battery powered electric motor, and a 15.8 gallon fuel tank. While BMW hasn't released exact fuel economy for US models just yet, it has been estimated that it will get a combined fuel economy of 30 mpg in US standards based on the Euro fuel returns of 36.7 mpg. Available body styles are Sport, Modern, Luxury or M Sport trim, and an adaptive M Suspension.
The new 2013 BMW M5 has a sedan body style and is priced at $89,900. Equipped with gasoline direct fuel injection, a 4.4L eight-cylinder DOHC engine with variable valve timing, and a 21.9 gallon fuel tank, this model is turbocharged and delivers 560 hp at 6000 rpm and 500 ft lb of torque at 1500 rpm. Assumptions aside, there have already been reports that the power of this BMW model's engine has been drastically underrated.
The new 2013 BMW M6 ranges in price from $106,100 to $113,100. This model is also turbocharged and equipped with gasoline direct fuel injection, a 4.4L eight-cylinder DOHC engine with variable valve timing, and a 21.1 gallon fuel tank. It delivers 560 hp at 6000 rpm and 500 ft lb of torque at 1500 rpm. As stated by BMW itself, the M6 "boasts the most powerful engine ever outfitted in a BMW paired with a high-torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch. And just like its predecessor, its roof is molded from natural Carbon Fiber Composite for a more athletic stance." Coupe and convertible body styles are available.
The new 2013 BMW X1 is a sports activity vehicle (SAV) ranging in price from $30,650 to $38,450. There are two variations of this model: 28i and 35i. Previous reviews have described this model as driving like a BMW car with the space and utility of an SUV. In other words, this model is a faux SUV. Equipped with gasoline direct fuel injection, a turbocharged 2.0L in-line four-cylinder DOHC engine with variable valve timing, and a 16.6 gallon fuel tank, this model delivers 241 hp at 5000 rpm and 258 ft lb of torque at 1250 rpm.
All four of the new 2013 BMW models seem to be catching the attention of car enthusiasts and general American consumers alike, but for different reasons - the ActiveHybrid 3 for its environmental friendliness, the M5 and M6 for their powerful engines, and the X1 for its faux SUV style.
