An easy simple tool to find more than just popular releases.

A new "visual browsing tool" is making life easier for movie and music lovers who just want an answer to the familiar question: Is there anything out there worth watching and listening to?

The new website, New And Upcoming (http://www.newandupcoming.com), offers an extensive menu of the latest movies, music, games, and books in a remarkably simple and visually appealing format. By enabling visitors to browse product releases by dates, New And Upcoming is the definitive word on what’s new and what’s next.

"When I had the idea for New And Upcoming, I was just trying to scratch my own itch," said creator Jeffery Hirono, a Los Angeles-area web developer. "I love watching movies, but a lot of the time I would get frustrated surfing the web looking for something to watch. There are other new release sites out there, but most of them are long, boring pages of text, and many are really hard to navigate."

By contrast, the pages of New And Upcoming offer an enchanting graphic display of movie posters, album art, and book covers. In addition to the vivid presentation, the beauty of New And Upcoming is its simplicity and ease-of-use. No more clicking through a maddening maze of hyperlinks.

Hirono credits his partner, graphic designer Tara Ting, for the website’s simple but very cool design. The site's entertainment menu is in prominent display on the home page. Visitors choose between "Newly Released" and "Upcoming" in seven categories: music, DVD, Blu-ray, video games, books, Kindle books and textbooks.

One thing that was important to Hirono in creating New And Upcoming was to feature more than just the most popular releases. The website enables movie, music, game and book lovers to find products that would otherwise be nearly impossible to come across.

"My main goal in building this site was to provide a place for fanatics to see everything that's new in the market, and not just the popular stuff," said Hirono. "There are several sites that mention the popular books or music, but I have not found another site that enables users to scroll quickly and easily through all of the newest products by release date, whether mainstream, alternative or the stuff that is really ‘out there.'"

The result is that New And Upcoming users spend less time looking and more time enjoying, as well as getting turned on to entertainment that they might otherwise have never known about.

Products are grouped by release date. The "Newly Released" section starts with today's brand-new releases, then yesterday's, then the day before that, etc. The "Upcoming" section reveals what's due out tomorrow, and the day after that, and so on. "Upcoming" releases are featured 12 weeks into the future, so true aficionados can know what's coming down the pike long before the rank and file.

One recent visitor to New And Upcoming said, "Spending time at the website was like reliving the old days of actually going to the store to flip through DVD boxes and CD cases and book covers. Sometimes you really can tell something about a book -- or a movie, album, or game -- by its cover. Now it is possible to browse that way again without ever leaving your home, thanks to New And Upcoming."

New And Upcoming went live in May and is a free site, wide open to the public, without any subscription fee or login requirements.
