Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is excited to offer a once-in-a lifetime, interactive opportunity to have a close-up encounter with an endangered African penguin. The Backstage Penguin Pass offers Aquarium visitors an intimate, hands-on experience with a penguin in Audubon’s newly designed private penguin encounter with a member of the Aquarium’s husbandry team.
One of New Orleans’ family attractions, Audubon Aquarium will allow guests to learn about penguin natural history and how the Aquarium cares for the penguins in its collection. They will go behind-the-scenes to learn about the special diets of penguins and visit the Aquarium Prep Kitchen where food is prepared for many of the Aquarium’s animals. Visitors will also receive a penguin painting created during the experience along with a photo to capture the unforgettable moment.
As a landmark in New Orleans, kids activities are an important part of Audubon’s programs. The Backstage Penguin Pass program is available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM starting Friday, September 28, 2012. The encounters will be limited to 6 guests of 4 years old and above, and all participants 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (21 or older). One adult must accompany each child under 10 years of age (one adult per child).
Tickets for the Backstage Penguin Pass are $115 per person for Audubon members and $125 per person non-member.
As a special treat for select lucky visitors, from Friday, September 21 through Sunday, September 23, 2012, every 500th guest to the Aquarium will be invited to spend time with a penguin as part of Audubon’s new Backstage Penguin Pass program.
Backstage Penguin Pass tickets can be purchased by visiting AudubonInstitute.org or at any Audubon Nature Institute attraction. The Backstage Penguin Pass program is one of many things to do in New Orleans. See all of Audubon’s events online.
