The latest report provides an overview of the most important trends and activity for patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The new patent report summarized below identifies the top recipients of patents issued on February 14, 2012.

There was a significant surge in the total number of patents issued this week compared to the number of patents issued last week - 970 to be exact. However, the number of patents received by each of the top assignees isn't much higher. In fact, International Business Machines Corporation, which was the top assignee this week and last week, secured 5 less patents on February 14, 2012.

However, there was a marked increase in patents per category. The top categories are largely unchanged since last week, but Chemistry; Metallurgy - Organic Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering; Lighting; Heating; Weapons; Blasting made it back on the list after falling off last week.

Kia Silverbrook is once again the top inventor as he has been for many weeks. The rest of the top inventors list is composed on new comers.
