While all the categories from last week experienced a drop in patent activity, the top one for both weeks, Physics - Computing; Calculating; Counting, saw the most significant decrease from 940 to 674 patents issued. There were only two new categories to the top 10 list this week, Physics - Optics and Electricity - Electric Techniques Not Otherwise Provided For.

Once again Kia Silverbrook is the top inventor this week. Although Silverbrook received more patents than last week, the other top inventors were issued less than those who made the previous week's top 10 list. The top assignee, International Business Machines Corporation, also got far fewer patents this first week of February, a full 100 less to be exact. There were two newcomers to the top 10 assignees list, Fujifilm Corporation and Texas Instruments Incorporated.
