The latest StrutPatent.com report examines the most notable trends for patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The information below outlines the top recipients of patents issued on January 31, 2012.

There was a notable increase in the number of patents issued in January's final week. The USPTO issued a total of 5,265, over 500 more than last week. Although, Kia Silverbrook again tops the list of inventors with the most patents, he shares that honor with seven other inventors who also received 8 patents.
Physics - Computing; Calculating; Counting topped the list of categories just as it did on the January 24, 2012 patent report. Physics overall was the most dominant group with 4 of the top 10 categories being physics related, including the only new category to make the list this week, Physics - Photography; Cinematography; Analogous Techniques Using Waves Other Than Optical Waves; Electrography; Holography.
The top 10 patent assignees list contains many of the same players with 8 out of 10 having made the list last week as well. International Business Machines Corporation is still the most active assignee by far, getting even more patents than they did in the previous week. The two newcomers Honeywell International Inc. and Broadcom Corporation round out the list of top 10 patent assignees for the week so January 31, 2012.
