Attorney Joseph W. Belluck of Belluck & Fox, LLP was honored June 5 at the “Making Law Work for Health Consumers” spring reception hosted by New Yorkers for Patient & Family Empowerment, Inc.

The non-profit organization recognized Belluck for his legal work on behalf of clients harmed by tobacco and asbestos companies and for his advocacy for patients’ rights as a member of the New York Medicaid Redesign Team work group.

Patient & Family Empowerment is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower patients and their loved ones in interacting with the healthcare system, to strengthen public access to information about patient safety and to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in New York.

Other honorees at the June 5 reception included Elisabeth Benjamin, the Community Service Society’s vice president of Health Programs and founder of the Legal Aid Society’s Health Law Unit, and Janet Foley, director of Health and Safety at CSEA Local 1000 AFSCME and an advocate for safe lifting and moving of patients in healthcare settings.
