The development on the extension at Newcastle Airport started back in October 2011 and was completed in time for the unveiling on the 5th July 2012.

The total investment for the projected which included the immigration and pier developments reached £3.2 million, £2.5million of which was invested into the terminal of the north east airport!

The main reasoning behind building the new section of the terminal and the rest of the terminal development was to improve the journey of the customer and ultimately future-proof the airport.

The amount of security lanes at Newcastle Airport’s main terminal now totals six in operation with additional space for further lanes, a total of 10 in the future when these are deemed necessary.

The increased space, potential for additional security desks and additional finishing touches will all be working together to improve the customer journey through Newcastle Airport.

Newcastleairportparking.com provides passengers flying out of the best airport of its size in Europe with the cheapest parking options in and around the airport’s immediate vicinity. A number of parking options are available and all guarantee the best value and the best customer service, which is also something you will find in the new and original terminals.

Work on the extension was carried out by a number of contractors. The main design and build was undertaken by BAM Construction Limited, while the architectural expertise came from local business Space Architecture, mechanical and electrical design was overseen by Desco, Waterman Structures was brought in to design the structure.

In order to ensure that as little disruption as possible was made to customers, travelling between October last year and now, the building work was done in a number of stages and finally completed mid-way through June.

The management at Airport parking shop and Manchester airport parking centre are said to be excited about how the terminal extension proves itself over the busy summer season.
Throughout the development the site’s immigration arrivals area was also redesigned, in partnership with the UK Border Agency, to speed up that aspect of security as well. There are now six presentation desks at immigration as opposed to the four that were in use prior to the upgrade.

All the latest technology is in use in the now extended terminal and stores which will ultimately lead to a greater level of customer satisfaction for visitors passing through Newcastle Airport.
