Newcomer House Porch Programs to Host Artillery Demonstration

As part of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area’s (HCWHA) 2019 Porch Program Series, the South Mountain Artillery Battery will demonstrate cannon firing.

The weekend of June 8 and 9, the South Mountain Artillery Battery will demonstrate cannon firing at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. Learn about Captain John Tidball’s “Flying” Artillery and hike up the Tidball Trail near the Newcomer House on Antietam Battlefield.

The Newcomer House will be open from 11 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. Volunteer docents will be available to share knowledge about the Newcomer House and offer assistance to visitors to the three county Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area.

This is the fourth season of Porch Programs at the Newcomer House, HCWHA’s Exhibit and Visitor Center at Antietam National Battlefield. Porch Programs feature presentations, demonstrations, pop-up exhibits, interactives and more from April through December. July’s Porch Program will feature Eddie Roberts performing his first-person interactive program, “Footsteps,” on July 20.
