The new 3D program allows ease of design visualization, and therefore client communication, as well as increased internal efficiency

The Design Group at New Energy Works Timberframers has integrated Autodesk Revit, a three-dimensional design program, for their 2013 designs. This change brings the latest in three-dimensional design technology to time honored timber frame craftsmanship combining the best from the two worlds.
“We’re looking forward to sharing the 3D modeling for every project. It will make plans easier to understand and will allow quick fine-tuning of design details with our clients,” explains Ty Allen, manager of New Energy Works Design Group.
The new Revit software allows the Design Group’s drawings and plans to develop in a realistic three-dimensional venue that is compatible with AutoCAD. This creates seamless and accurate project communication between the Design Group and New Energy Works’ timber frame engineers.
A family home designed by the Group exclusively in Revit is currently under construction. The timber frame portion of the hybrid home was raised last week (January 24, 2013) in Oneonta, New York. “We’ve already experienced the ease of design visualization, and therefore client communication, as well as increased internal efficiency with this new 3D program,” says Allen. “Using Revit the interior volumes and their inter-connectivity was easy for the homeowners of the Oneonta, New York project to understand and it helped set clear expectations for the physical construction.”
Real-time changes and plan adjustments, accurate day lighting projections, and incorporation of existing and proposed landscaping, are just a few of the many pieces of new information the Design Group accesses through Revit. Detailed design sections and accurate square footage product needs are also communicated to project construction teams, streamlining the time needed on-site.
