“We are honored by Newman’s Own Foundation’s announcement of a $300,000 contribution to the Alliance’s ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® event series (http://www.vivetuvida.org) supporting Hispanic family health. We are humbled that this gift marks over $300 million given by Newman’s Own Foundation. It is an extraordinary achievement in philanthropy and Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s belief in the power we all have to make a difference," said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health (http://www.HispanicHealth.org), the nation’s leading Hispanic health advocacy group, and author of The Latina Guide to Health.
Last night, during its “Over the Moon Celebration,” Newman’s Own announced that it surpassed over $300 million in charitable giving. To cross the milestone, and in the company of dedicated individuals and organizations that made it possible, Newman’s Own Foundation awarded $1.4 million in grants, including a grant of $300,000 to the National Alliance for Hispanic Health (http://pitch.pe/99298). The grant is in support of the Alliance’s ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® program, the premier national family physical activity and healthy lifestyle event series. With the support from Newman’s Own Foundation the program will expand to 25 communities in 2011 and reach 50,000 people.
According to Dr. Delgado, “¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® is a movement of people who believe in the opportunity to make a difference. Because of the support we are receiving from Newman’s Own Foundation (http://www.newmansownfoundation.org), at community family health events around the country we will be able to provide 50,000 people with life-saving health screenings; access to healthy food options, such as farmer’s markets; and opportunities for physical activity and sports in their communities. We are able to make this difference because of the commitment of over 300 partner organizations and thousands of extraordinary volunteers who believe in the power of culture, family, and community.”
“When people would thank Paul for his charitable giving, he would always reply that he didn’t think he was doing anything special,” said Robert Forrester, president of Newman’s Own Foundation. “He believed that the real thanks should go to those people and organizations – like the National Alliance for Hispanic Health – who work every day to make ours and the future’s a better world. For Paul, it was a privilege to be just one among these many. That’s how we all feel today as we carry on this unique and wonderful philanthropic legacy.”
“All of us who work on this effort are grateful for the partnership of Newman’s Own Foundation and through ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® we are committed to carrying out the legacy of Paul Newman to make the world a better place,” concluded Dr. Delgado.
