The School of Nursing at Loyola University New Orleans continues to excel, earning top rankings once again in the 2013 Best Online Nursing Programs rankings published by U.S. News & World Report Jan. 15, 2013. The rankings mark the second year the guide has been published, with ranking methodologies based on various common factors including graduation rates, academic and career support services offered to students, student engagement, one-year retention rates and admissions selectivity. Loyola’s online graduate nursing program was among 471 institutions accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission offering fully online programs that met the criteria for the U.S. Department of Education’s definition of an online education program.
For the second year in a row, Loyola continues as the highest-ranked Jesuit school designated with top rankings in three distinguishing areas:
- Third in Student Engagement and Accreditation
- Sixth in overall Best Online Nursing Programs
- Eighth in Student Services and Technology
Loyola University New Orleans was also ranked ninth Best Master's University in the South, ninth in its Best Value Schools (previously Great Schools, Great Prices) category and among the Top 10 Largest Online Graduate Programs. For the last 22 years, Loyola has retained its position among the Top 10 Regional Universities in the South.

Cary, Ph.D., MPH, R.N., professor and director of the School of Nursing at Loyola, who was named a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow in 2008. Under her leadership, the School of Nursing also introduced Louisiana’s first available Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2010. In 2012, the first year U.S. News & World Report published online program rankings, the online graduate nursing programs ranked among the top five quality-rated Online Graduate Nursing Programs (Honor Roll) and was additionally recognized as first in Student Services and Technology and second in Faculty Credentials & Training.
