The technology partnership between Cornell University’s CUAUV Project and NexLogic Technologies continues to be successful with the CUAUV team’s winning first place at this year’s AUVSI’s 15th International RoboSub Vehicle Competition.
The Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (CUAUV) team competing against 30 other contestants from nine foreign countries won the $8,000 grand prize along with another $500 for first place in technical judging. Cornell took first place in the competition in 2003, 2009 and 2010 and took second place in 2011. The teams have also placed first in technical design for 10 consecutive years.

They all functioned perfectly, allowing for a very smooth electrical system during the year and our competition. NexLogic Technologies, a San Jose, CA-based leading PCB technology design, fabrication, and assembly house, has sponsored the sub-assembly work with the CUAUV project for the past seven years. The company acts as a technology consultant and facilitates PCB fabrication. The NexLogic supported CUAUV project includes nine PCBs, which include battery pod, sensor power, serial, thruster, actuator boards among the others.
Bunney said, “The most unique board we have is the serial board. It has differential USB signal lines and requires slightly different manufacturing options in the layer dielectric and copper weight. Having this control over the board is important so that we can design a board that is as resilient to noise as possible since it is the communication hub for all of our circuit boards and sensors.”
