I love the look on people’s faces when they hold their first nICE mug. It feels good to jump into something new, whether it’s a lake plunge on a nippy fall day or a new way to love ice.

Born in a sweltering sauna on a freezing Minnesota night, nICE mug is the newest brainchild of Glenn Auerbach, Minneapolis entrepreneur, inventor, sauna and ice enthusiast. A drinking vessel crafted of crystal clear ice, nICE mug is an innovative way to bring a glacial chill to your favorite beverages. To generate support for his invention, Auerbach has launched an exciting online venture using Kickstarter to put nICE mugs in the hands of ice lovers everywhere. Kickstarter funding for nICE mug wraps up Tuesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. EST.
A celebration of nature, the story behind Auerbach’s invention embraces Minnesota’s cold climate and northern nights. One freezing night, as Auerbach trudged out to the backyard sauna behind his Minnesota Northwoods cabin, he came upon a container of water used for the sauna that had frozen solid except for the center portion. Auerbach brought the chunk of ice into the 180o sauna, dumped out the water, poured a beer into the hollowed ice, and took turns sipping the beer with a friend. The beer was fantastic and the idea for nICE Mug was born.
Auerbach’s discovery led him to spend years experimenting until he found the perfect way to quench everyone’s thirst for an icy cold one. A mold became the answer to creating nICE mug, and not just any mold. But a mold that perfectly replicates nature’s method of freezing a container of water — from the outside in.
Just fill the special mold with water, freeze overnight, and pop out your authentic nICE mug for up to 30 minutes of icy, pure sipping enjoyment. Serving ideas include tea with fresh mint leaves frozen inside the mug, ice water, cocktails, beer, juice, and birthday party beverage for the kids.
Auerbach says, “I love the look on people’s faces when they hold their first nICE mug. It feels good to jump into something new, whether it’s a lake plunge on a nippy fall day or a new way to love ice. With nICE mug, you’ve made art, a really beautiful glass entirely out of ice. You’ve set yourself apart.”
