Tekscan is pleased to announce the Nip Pressure Measurement System (NPMS™): an ultra thin pressure measurement tool that can identify misalignment issues between rollers as long as 72 inches. With the NPMS roll profile data is transmitted in real-time from the system’s built in wireless unit to a remote PC/Laptop located up to 100 m away.
With the NPMS, non-uniform loading, misaligned rolls, roller deformation, and crown deficiencies can be identified prior to a production run. When placed between two contacting rollers, NPMS captures pressure data and nip width measurements in real-time. Pressure profile data and easy-to-interpret graphical displays are transmitted wirelessly to a remote PC. As machine operators and technicians adjust the rolls, pressure data is continuously updated, allowing them to see how the applied changes affect the strip in operation. Measurements can be saved and referenced for use in preventative and predictive maintenance procedures to reduce production delays and improve product quality and yield.
Designed to support manufacturing, NPMS consists of a tactile pressure sensor (about 0.004” thick) and electronics conveniently packaged in a lightweight, self-contained, portable unit. Roll pressure profile data and nip width readings are captured and transmitted wirelessly to a laptop, located up to 100 m away; containing the NPMS Windows based software. Because there are no wires connecting the system to the laptop, roll or maintenance operators can quickly move throughout the plant or assembly line and obtain roller readings.
To accommodate rollers for a wide range of industries, such as iron and steel, pulp and paper, converting, and printing, the Nip Pressure Measurement System is available in four lengths: 18 in. (45.7 cm), 36 in. (91.4 cm), 54 in. (137.1 cm), and 72 in.(182.8 cm). Nip widths up to 1.5 inches can be measured and the system can withstand pressures up to 2,000 psi.
Tekscan pressure mapping systems are used by product designers and test engineers throughout the research, design, testing, and manufacturing cycle to verify and enhance product performance.
