I started InsideDigs.com to give renters a jump start on their apartment search, a way to save money, and the ability to find an apartment without going through an expensive broker.

InsideDigs.com, the latest apartment rental website and free online community for apartment hunters, launched 10 months ago and since then has given over 2300 members access to peer to peer, no fee apartment rentals throughout New York City and the tristate area.
At the core of InsideDigs.com is a social network of apartment seekers who have the common goal of finding new digs without paying a broker’s fee. The site has a strict no broker policy and actively removes anyone they suspect is a broker. Community members register details about their current apartment and create their own listings with photographs, measurements, background on the neighborhood, and when they plan to move. Because move out dates are included, prospective renters are given the ability to find available apartments before they hit the rental market anywhere from one to six months in advance.
Because renters and not brokers or management companies create the listings on InsideDigs.com, apartment hunters get inside and honest information on a potential rental. Bait-and-switch listings are non-existent because apartment renters have no incentive to place them. Apartment renters can search by move in date, neighborhood, and price.
On average, brokers charge 10% – 15% of a year’s rent for a broker. By networking with other renters and contacting the management company directly, renters can potentially save thousands of dollars in fees.
“New York City is one of the most expensive cities to live in, and the rental market is incredibly competitive,” said Sharif Fakhr, founder of InsideDigs.com. “I started InsideDigs.com to give renters a jump start on their apartment search, a way to save money, and the ability to find an apartment without going through an expensive broker.”
InsideDigs.com is built on a community of apartment seekers that share a common goal. When a prospective renter finds an apartment that interests them, they can connect to the current renter through the site’s internal messaging system to get more information. If the renter is interested in moving, they simply have to call the management company and tell them. Although the site is currently listing only apartments in NYC and New Jersey, there are plans to include listings in major cities including Boston and Washington, DC by Spring 2012.
InsideDigs.com is a free peer to peer community for apartment hunters looking for rental information on digs before they hit the market. InsideDigs was created by renters just like you who were tired of expensive broker fees, too-good-to-be-true photos, and bait-and-switch listings. By joining the site you can access listings that are shared by other community members. Connect to other Insiders using our messaging system to ask questions and find out more information on how to lease, swap, or sublet their apartment. The hassle of finding your next apartment is gone.
