Novogradac & Company LLP, a national certified public accounting and consulting firm, will host the National Historic Tax Credit Conference September 6-7, 2012 at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Ky. The conference is expected to attract a wide range of industry participants, from attorneys and accountants to developers, investors, and community development and historic preservation professionals. Deemed one of the nation’s most successful and cost-effective community development programs, the federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program is responsible for a tremendous number of rehabilitation, community revitalization, green building and housing developments in some of the nation’s most economically distressed areas.

“Considering the tens of thousands of properties that have been rehabilitated and the billions of dollars in private investment stimulated by federal and state historic tax credits, a thorough understanding of how these tools work and the effect they have on communities is a must,” says Tom Boccia, conference chairman and partner in the Cleveland, Ohio office of Novogradac & Company LLP. “This conference, designed to break down complex industry information into comprehensive and manageable pieces, will provide opportunities to enhance technical skills, foster new connections and strengthen existing business relationships.”

Designed to give practitioners the necessary tools for making strategic investments and project decisions, the two-day event will serve as a vehicle for sharing promising policies and strategies—allowing practitioners to gather and exchange ideas and grow professionally. In addition to discussing the tax and legal aspects of historic tax credits as well as the opportunities related to them, panelists will address a number of timely topics including: issues impacting historic tax credit transactions, such as the Boardwalk case and Virginia state tax credit ruling; working with non-traditional sources of capital; folding state historic tax credit funds into transactions; attracting investors; twinning credits; making small transactions feasible and much more.

Novogradac & Company LLP’s National Historic Tax Credit Conference will offer opportunities to mingle not only in the classroom but also at a number of networking occasions. Along with numerous networking breaks held between the days’ sessions, attendees can converse with colleagues at the keynote luncheon, two networking breakfasts and at a reception that will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.

The conference will also feature a one-day pre-conference workshop, HTC 101: The Basics, on Wednesday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional and separate registration is required.

The National Historic Tax Credit Conference is co-hosted by Baker & Hostetler LLP, National Trust Community Investment Corporation, Nixon Peabody LLP, Squire Sanders and SNR Denton. Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Bryan Cave, Carlisle Tax Credit Advisors, Kasper Mortgage Capital and PNC are among those sponsoring the event. Exhibitors include Heritage Consulting Group and Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing.
