Kids often do their best learning while they are at play, so Journeyworks Publishing is encouraging kids to play with food during National Nutrition Month! Don’t worry, you won't need to break out the paper towels; just dish out a set of “Put Me On Your Plate” pocket cards and kids can play with a colorful variety of foods while learning about healthy eating the MyPlate way-- no clean up required. Educators and professionals can request free review copies of this nutrition education resource by visiting Journeyworks Publishing’s National Nutrition Month MyPlate Pocket Cards review pack page.

Playing off the sports trading card theme, the pocket cards feature teams of players from each food group: team fruit, veggie, protein, grain and dairy. The sixth card is an all-star team with players from all food groups on the roster. Each pocket card unfolds to reveal seven perforated panels of colorful drawings of healthy foods, nutrition facts, jokes and trivia all while getting across the key messages of the USDA’s MyPlate healthy eating guidelines.

Each pocket card in the series works as a mini-brochure or can be separated into trading cards and used in a variety of learning activities. Educators and professionals may want to use “Put Me On Your Plate” pocket cards as discussion starters or in active games in a group or classroom setting. The cards also make great handouts at health fairs and community events. Kids will enjoy the fun content so much they may not realize they are learning key nutrition concepts too.

To help folks get the most out of the “Put Me On Your Plate” pocket cards, Journeyworks Publishing has gone the extra step and developed additional resources that can be used in conjunction with the cards. These extra (and free) resources include: a "Pocket Card Tips, Games and Activities” white paper that details over a dozen games that can be played using the pocket cards, a “Put Me On Your Plate” bingo sheet, and a "MyPlate" coloring sheet.

So go ahead, let kids play with food this year during National Nutrition Month. Put pocket cards on the table and let the delicious learning begin! Visit Journeyworks Publishing’s National Nutrition Month MyPlate Pocket Cards review pack page to request copies of these fresh materials today.
