The birth control safety center at DrugRisk.com is announcing updated news for women using the contraceptive NuvaRing. Following an increase in the number of claims alleging blood clot injuries from the device, a federal court recently scheduled the first trial to start in January*.
DrugRisk gives the millions of people using popular prescription drugs and medical devices the latest information on safety alerts, recalls, studies and legal news. In addition to improving safety, visitors can find out if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The resource center has added warnings from health experts linking contraceptives like NuvaRing to higher risks of blood clots than traditional birth control pills. Last year, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding vaginal ring contraceptives could relate to a 2.5 to 3-fold increased risk of blood clots**.
Due to the number of patients who have filed a NuvaRing lawsuit alleging blood clots, many cases are now consolidated in a special federal court in Missouri. The formal case is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri. Court records show 1,358 claims have already been filed***.
Now, DrugRisk has learned that U.S. District Judge Rodney Sippel, who is overseeing the litigation, has scheduled the first trial to start on January 27th*. This bellwether trial could give an indication of how cases or settlements will go down the road.
Anyone who suffered a blood clot, stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism after using NuvaRing is urged to contact the DrugRisk Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal rights as soon as possible. DrugRisk only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already handled NuvaRing lawsuits.
