With NXTera Bridge software developers can dynamically access COBOL programs from .NET
(Vocus) June 24, 2010
eCube Systems, LLC, a provider of middleware and interoperability tools, has recently released NXTera 6.0, now with COBOL to .NET interoperability. The enhancement, called NXTera Bridge, enables.NET applications and clients to seamlessly interoperate with legacy applications built in COBOL on any middle-tier platform, including Windows, Linux, Unix and OpenVMS.
Using NXTera Bridge, existing COBOL code may fully participate in the Microsoft .NET cross-language development framework -- without forcing expensive rewrites or complex transformations.
“With NXTera Bridge software developers can dynamically access COBOL programs from .NET,” said Kevin Barnes, eCube Systems CEO “NXTera makes COBOL looks like another .NET service. At the same time, COBOL applications can access .NET resources in any .NET language as it if were a remote COBOL program.”
NXTera Bridge Benefits
These new capabilities deliver solid benefits to software developers and enterprise managers tasked with getting more out of existing resources. These include:
- Eliminating the need to replace COBOL with .NET
- Speeds time-to-market by allowing legacy business logic to leverage .Net services quickly
- Rejects the use of clumsy wrappering functions that increase maintenance costs
- Extends the value of strategic assets while lowering maintenance and development cost
- Aids in the movement of legacy COBOL logic to Linux and integration with contemporary .NET applications
NXTera Bridge Features
NXTera generates, manages and integrates service interfaces for legacy COBOL, C and FORTRAN business logic that can be easily extended to .NET and Java. NXTera's bridging tools and procedures make the process quick and flexible.
- The NXTera/.NET client runtime is 100% implemented in .NET
- NXTera generates client connectors in C# and VB.NET
- Supports the creation of NXTera clients and servers in any .NET language
- Easily add .NET web service support
- Compatible with the Mono Project
NXTera Bridge Availability
Now software development teams have the ability to develop new initiatives based on .NET while preserving and reusing existing COBOL investments with NXTera Bridge. NXTera Bridge is available as a component of NXTera 6.0 or independently. Typical stand-alone NXTera Bridge solutions for Windows and Linux are priced at $8,000USD, per server.
