Social Security Disability is there for people who have lost the ability to provide for themselves or their families. We want to ensure those individuals get the help they need and are entitled to.

The New York Social Security Disability lawyers at the law firm of Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus P.C. have set aside a day to review, free of charge, the potential Social Security claims of New York residents.

The event has been scheduled for May 4 at the firm's office in Jericho, Long Island, at 300 Jericho Quadrangle, East Building, Suite 180. Individuals interested in attending the firm's Social Security Disability Day should call the Jericho office at 516-342-2200 or 1-800-966-4999 before May 4.

The law firm will offer coffee, cookies and other snacks for participants. Participants will also receive a Starbucks gift card.

"Social Security disability is there for people who have lost the ability to provide for themselves or their families. We want to ensure those individuals get the help they need and are entitled to," said Steven J. Schwartzapfel, a partner in the firm.

The firm's lawyers who focus on disability claims will consult with individuals who are uncertain whether they qualify for federal assistance. Schwartzapfel Partners' attorneys will evaluate potential claims and offer guidance on filing for those persons who qualify.

You may be eligible for Social Security Disability if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are no longer capable of working or have been unable to work for a period lasting more than one year;
  • You have worked a minimum of five years during the 10 years preceding your disability and you have paid taxes on your earnings during this time;
  • You have become unable to work before you reach your full retirement age, which could be 65 or older, depending on your birth date.

"Many valid claims for Social Security Disability are denied because of flaws in the application process," Schwartzapfel said.

"The Social Security Disability legal team at Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus has the knowledge and experience that can make a tremendous difference in the outcome of your claim," Schwartzapfel said.
