Camp Chateaugay, a popular New York summer camp, is expanding its existing rocketry program to also include robotics. Why robotics? Today’s environment and society calls for an accelerated understanding of the ever-expanding technological and engineering world.
To prepare the youth for these current day standards, robotics is a fun and educational means to a more knowledge based and informed end. Simply said, “Kids love robots!” The learning and building process of robotics is a fantastic way to enhance existing math and science reasoning skills, while maintaining an environment of low stress entertainment and simple fun. Chateaugay’s existing rocketry program promotes small lessons in physics and aeronautics, along with some rocketry history and the excitement of blasting off a handmade rocket into the atmosphere.
The Camp Chateaugay Legos Program is a new enterprise for children to express themselves creatively, visually and scientifically without even realizing it! The program will be focused on simple to more complex projects that will allow for children of all ages to participate and succeed. The end result will be a project design, worked on and built by a team of campers, which will be captured digitally in picture form to be sent home with each member of the team. Camp Chateaugay’s focus is to give children a safe environment to enhance existing skills, to take on challenges (perhaps) never before experienced and to ultimately, enjoy the process from beginning to end.
